They appear in finds from the Neolithic and antiquity until the 20th century.
Fragments of braided bark were found in Novgorod. They can also be found on a Russian medallion from the 12th century. and later in a painting by H. Hirtz from the 15th century.

According to the Russians, it is also excellent natural footwear for the sauna.
